Elion

Introducing EHR Vendor Comparisons

June 6, 2023

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of Elion’s new vendor comparison product, a first-of-its-kind solution enabling digital health organizations to efficiently discover, evaluate, and select prospective healthcare technology vendors.

This is no ordinary vendor comparison site. We’ve built the deepest and most comprehensive vendor dataset in the market, making it dramatically easier to identify prospective vendors, analyze their capabilities, and compare them side-by-side. Product, engineering, and clinical teams save weeks of time evaluating vendors up front, and make better, more confident technology decisions, avoiding costly rebuilds down the road.

Our initial product dives deep into the electronic health record (EHR) market, with additional categories rolling out in the coming months.

Why we built this

Selecting healthcare technology vendors is incredibly challenging. It’s difficult to know what vendors are out there and which should be in your consideration set. Parsing through the marketing language on their websites to understand what they actually do is nearly impossible. Getting the in-depth information you need to objectively evaluate their capabilities takes weeks of sales calls and hurried demos. And all of this is only getting harder as the ecosystem of healthcare technology continues to expand rapidly.

We created our comparison product to simplify this process and help digital health builders make better, more confident decisions. With it, builders can:

  1. Discover all vendors relevant to their needs in one place‍

  2. Leverage Elion’s in-depth evaluation framework (i.e., RFP) to build their own requirements list‍

  3. Review product demo videos, feature descriptions, and API documentation to evaluate exactly how vendors deliver specific capabilities‍

  4. Compare vendors side-by-side to quickly understand their relative strengths and weaknesses

Launching with EHRs; additional categories coming soon

For most provider organizations, EHRs serve as the foundation upon which all other technology solutions depend. What a provider chooses for their billing, scheduling, patient app and more all depends on the capabilities of their EHR. It’s often the first technology decision made and certainly the most consequential.

It’s for these reasons that we’ve chosen to launch with the EHR category. Our aim is to help digital health provider organizations get the foundation right, and support them with their downstream technology decisions as we roll out additional categories.

Elion’s model

As digital health veterans ourselves, we know the importance of accurate unbiased information. And we, like all buyers today, have a healthy skepticism when it comes to sites that claim to provide objective vendor information for free (which is what we’re doing!). So we want to be clear about our business model.

Today, Elion makes money from the vendors on our platform. It is free for vendors to have a basic profile because we always want to have the full consideration set available for buyers. In-depth profiles with detailed feature information and the ability to capture buyer interest require a subscription however. This is why you’ll see some vendors that have detailed profile information and others that don’t. Additionally, we will be monetizing buyer-intent data based on information about which products and features users are engaging with.

Given our model, we do not make recommendations about specific vendors. Our aim is to support vendors in sharing the information that helps them best position their strengths and make clear which types of customers are the best fit for their product.

We take this approach because we want our product to be able to help as many healthcare buyers as possible and believe that the best way to do that is by keeping it free to use.
